Making Yourself A Character In Your Story #3

Hello! A few paid subscribers have asked me versions of the same question this week: What are the ways in which making yourself a character can go bad? For instance, from Dr Simon Rogoff: ‘I find myself wondering about the mistakes that we can make with this. Have you seen examples of it being done badly and backfiring in terms of how it lands with the reader?’

I’m sorry but this newsletter is a little shorter than normal, because one of my past stories has suddenly blown up in an unforeseen way, and everything’s all over the place. I’ll tell you about it when I can. But I DO have some examples, and I think they connect in a telling way.
